This is the prayer that was said at the end of every Catholic mass until Vatican II changed this to its omission. It is very meaningful as it enforces the construct of responsible society and establishes a conscience in Church that is apparently missing today as evidenced by the priest abuse scandals.
“Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the divine power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all evil spirits who wander now throughout your world seeking the ruin of souls.”
It is no coincidence that priest abuse victims often say that their soul was taken from them by the Catholic Priests upon abuse.
I still go to church but I would like to see them say this prayer at the end.
